How Cells from an Aborted Fetus are Used to Create Novel Flavor Enhancers

This is a follow up post to the most recent one about Pepsi and other companies using aborted fetal cells to create “flavors” for processed food. Pretty gross.

These “flavors” are synthetic and their safety has not been independently test–only by the manufacturer. The FDA then, on the word of the manufacturer alone, gives them a gras rating. Sad.

Here is a video about the flavor industry, and under their own admittance, seek to create addictive flavors to be put in processed foods.

“Flavors are substances that impart tastes or aromas… Individuals experience the sensation of taste when flavors in food and beverage products interact with taste receptors in the mouth. A taste receptor functions either by physically binding to a flavor ingredient in a process analogous to the way a key fits into a lock or by acting as a channel to allow ions to flow directly into a taste cell.

As a result of these interactions, signals are sent to the brain where a specific taste sensation is registered. There are currently five recognized primary senses of taste: umami, which is the savory taste of glutamate, sweet, salt, bitter and sour.

Senomyx has discovered or in-licensed many of the key receptors that mediate taste in humans. We created proprietary taste receptor-based assay systems that provide a biochemical or electronic readout when a flavor ingredient interacts with the receptor.”

According to an article in The New Yorker8 published in May 2011, Pepsi’s New York plant has a robot fitted with human taste buds to reliably “predict” what humans might like. To create this robotic taste tester, Pepsi Co. scientists injected the genetic sequences of the four known taste receptors into cultured cells, and then hardwired the cells to the robot’s computer. The robot (which has replaced human taste testers for the initial taste trials) can sample some 40,000 flavor assays per day.

What are These Genetically Engineered ‘Flavor Enhancers,’ and are They Safe?

So the advice to eat a whole foods diet without processed foods, is becoming wiser and wiser advice to keep healthy. The food industry is not in the health business. They are in the make money business.

Pepsi Uses Aborted Fetal Tissue in Taste Research

I find this quite hard to believe that tissue from aborted fetuses would be used to determine if a soda pop tastes good. I certainly hope that the movement in Oklahoma gains ground and brings Pepsi to its senses.

(NaturalNews) The Obama Administration has given its blessing to PepsiCo to continue utilizing the services of a company that produces flavor chemicals for the beverage giant using aborted human fetal tissue. reports that the Obama Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) has decided that PepsiCo’s arrangement with San Diego, Cal.-based Senomyx, which produces flavor enhancing chemicals for Pepsi using human embryonic kidney tissue, simply constitutes “ordinary business operations.”

The issue began in 2011 when the non-profit group Children of God for Life (CGL) first broke the news about Pepsi’s alliance with Senomyx, which led to massive outcry and a worldwide boycott of Pepsi products. At that time, it was revealed that Pepsi had many other options at its disposal to produce flavor chemicals, which is what its competitors do, but had instead chosen to continue using aborted fetal cells — or as Senomyx deceptively puts it, “isolated human taste receptors” (

A few months later, Pepsi’ shareholders filed a resolution petitioning the company to “adopt a corporate policy that recognizes human rights and employs ethical standards which do not involve using the remains of aborted human beings in both private and collaborative research and development agreements.” But the Obama Administration shut down this 36-page proposal, deciding instead that Pepsi’s use of aborted babies to flavor its beverage products is just business as usual, and not a significant concern.

“We’re not talking about what kind of pencils PepsiCo wants to use — we are talking about exploiting the remains of an aborted child for profit,” said Debi Vinnedge, Executive Director of CGL, concerning the SEC decision. “Using human embryonic kidney (HEK-293) to produce flavor enhancers for their beverages is a far cry from routine operations!”

To be clear, the aborted fetal tissue used to make Pepsi’s flavor chemicals does not end up in the final product sold to customers, according to reports — it is used, instead, to evaluate how actual human taste receptors respond to these chemical flavorings. But the fact that Pepsi uses them at all when viable, non-human alternatives are available illustrates the company’s blatant disregard for ethical and moral concerns in the matter.

Back in January, Oklahoma Senator Ralph Shortey proposed legislation to ban the production of aborted fetal cell-derived flavor chemicals in his home state. If passed, S.B. 1418 would also reportedly ban the sale of any products that contain flavor chemicals derived from human fetal tissue, which includes Pepsi products as well as products produced by Kraft and Nestle (

U.S. Dairy Industry Petitions FDA to Approve Aspartame as Hidden, Unlabeled Additive in Milk, Yogurt, Eggnog and Cream

This almost made me cry when I read it.  It is from an article from the organic consumers association.


You probably already know that the FDA has declared war on raw milk and even helped fund and coordinate armed government raids against raw milk farmers and distr…. Yes, it's insane. This brand of tyranny is unique to the USA and isn't even conducted in China, North Kora or Cuba. Only in the USA are raw milk farmers treated like terrorists.

But now the situation is getting even more insane than you could have imagined: the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) and the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) have filed a petition with the FDA asking the FDA to alter the definition of "milk" to secretly include chemical sweeteners such as aspartame and sucralose.

Importantly, none of these additives need to be listed on the label. They will simply be swept under the definition of "milk," so that when a company lists "milk" on the label, it automatically includes aspartame or sucralose. And if you're trying to avoid aspartame, you'll have no way of doing so because it won't be listed on the label.

This isn't only for milk, either: It's also for yogurt, cream, sour cream, eggnog, whipping cream and a total of 17 products, all of which are listed in the petition at

As the petition states:

IDFA and NMPF request their proposed amendments to the milk standard of identity to allow optional characterizing flavoring ingredients used in milk (e.g., chocolate flavoring added to milk) to be sweetened with any safe and suitable sweetener — including non-nutritive sweeteners such as aspartame.

This is all being done to "save the children," we're told, because the use of aspartame in milk products would reduce calories.

Osteoarthritis and Protein Metabolism

First, I am not a doctor.  The information in this post came from my chiropractor, the best one I have ever been to, and my brother’s testimony.  I trust my chiropractor’s advice more than any medical doctor I know.  And he will defer to medical treatment in a heartbeat if necessary. So he knows the limitations of preventative medicine.

My chiropractor has been treating me since 1993.  He is a genius in applied kinesiology or muscle testing (he taught the technique for several years), cranial sacral therapy and energy medicine as well.

I told the doc that my brother has osteoarthritis (medically diagnosed) and could he recommend anything for him.  My chiropractor said the first thing about osteoarthritis is that the cartilage that is missing from the joint is formed from protein in the diet.  And if my brother was having any issues with digesting protein he should look at this first.  The doc recommended a supplement by Standard Process called Zypan.   Zypan aids in the digestion of protein.  I related this to my brother.

My brother bought some Zypan and within 10 days of taking it began to notice the pain in his hips was less intense.  No medical tests were done, like an mri, to determine if cartilage was being laid down.  But my brother made no other changes in his diet or habits that would have accounted for the decrease in his pain.  It seems that the Zypan was beginning to help his condition.

Dr. Mercola, in the last few weeks, has been concentrating on providing information on fermented foods and the benefits they have on intestinal health.  The human intestine is one of the major defenses against disease in the body.   There are more cells residing in the intestines than are contained in the human body.  These cells are the microflora that promote digestion and absorbtion of food and immune response.

There are also invasive organisms that contest our health.  These are dealt with, in part, by the beneficial flora.

As always his articles contain the warnings about avoiding processed foods that form a breading environment in the intestines for invasive microorganisms that rob a person of their health.

FDA Sued — Withholding Data on Antibiotics Used in Livestock Feed

A sad commentary on greed vs. human health.  The proliferation of antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria now circulating through the human population can be traced in part to the rampant use of antibiotics in feed lots.  The bacteria common in feed lot environments become immune to antibiotics used in animal feed to make amimals gain more weight.  These superbugs them make their way into the human environment and the diseases they cause do not respond to antibiotics any more.  This is tragic.

The United States uses nearly 30 million pounds of antibiotics annually in food production. Livestock antibiotic use accounts for 80 percent of the total antibiotics sold in the US, and unnecessary use of antibiotics in food animals (cows, pigs, chickens, and turkeys) is a major driving force behind the rampant development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

Compare this to the 6 million pounds of antibiotics that are used for every man, woman and child in the US combined. But unlike human use, in which antibiotics are prescribed to treat serious infection, in animals, drugs such as penicillins and tetracyclines are routinely added to animal feed as a cheap way to make the animals grow faster.

The primary reason why concentrated animal feedlot operations (CAFOs) are such hotbeds for breeding antibiotic-resistant bacteria is because of the continuous feeding of low doses of antibiotics to the animals, which allows pathogens to survive, adapt, and eventually, thrive.

In short, American food producers are trading slightly reduced production costs (i.e. more meat per animal) for more lethal illnesses — both in animals and humans. Just one of several now resistant pathogens, Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA), is responsible for more than 94,000 infections and 18,000 deaths in the US each year!”

GMOs in Cheerios Cause Backlash

General Mills, the makers of popular supermarket cereals, spent 1.1 million dollars to help defeat the recent California proposition to require Genetically Engineered food ingredients.  Thousands of facebook fans let General Mills know of their disgust by filling the General Mills Cheerios App page with postings saying just this.

Genetically Engineered Foods

This is a most disturbing article posted by Dr. Mercola about genetically engineered foods, the Natural Products Association and prop 37 that ran in California in the recent November election.

Up until September, 67% of polled californians favored labeling GMO foods.  Then with the $50 million advertising onslaught of these companies:

prop 37 was defeated by 3% points.  Hershey already labels its foods sold in Europe with “genetically engineered ingredients” because the people living there did not buckle to the nonsense touted in the advertising campaign by the companies that don’t care about your health, just your money.

GE foods can have viruses and pesticides inserted into the food DNA.  People in the USA have the right to know what is in their food.

You’re Being Deceived More Often than Not When Shopping for “Natural”

As recently as November, 2012, NPA CEO John Shaw was named one of the Top Lobbyists2. He was also named as one of the top lobbyists for 2010. There can be little doubt that the NPA is in an excellent position to take a strong stand to protect consumers’ right to know and push for better certification standards when it comes to natural products.

Yet the unregulated “natural” food, supplements, and products sector, which is routinely produced with genetically engineered ingredients, toxic pesticides, synthetic chemicals, nitrate fertilizers, and livestock drugs, is actually larger than the certified organics sector. This “natural” market is worth more than $50 billion a year, compared to the certified organic sector, which is a $32 billion per year market.

Polls show that most US consumers are confused about the difference between organic and so-called “natural” products, with many consumers believing that “natural” means “almost organic” or even “better than organic,” but of course “natural” products are typically much cheaper than the organic varieties, yet typically cost more than conventional products not labeled “natural.” In other words, the $50 million+ “natural” products sector is basically built upon low or non-existent standards, and this ability to charge a premium without actually having to use premium ingredients is what’s being protected by organizations fighting against GE labeling.

Keep Your Brain Functioning Well

The human brain is the controlling organ for the functioning of the physical body.  This is not to be confused with the Higher Mind which is the seat of consciousness which survives the death of the brain.  But the Higher Mind functions through the brain, so when the brain suffers injury or decline, consciousness expression is impaired on the outer.

Keeping the brain active through mental exercise helps consciousness function through the brain properly.
